Essar Opens Hypermart in Agra

Essar Steel opened an Essar Hypermart in the city of Agra, as part of its philosophy to make steel available to end users close to the user point. The company has set up 65 Hypermarts across India since the retail-outlet initiative was launched in 2006.

Customers of the Hypermarts span from small manufacturers, local fabricators, and general engineering firms to large corporations and construction companies. Offering a range of flat and long steel products for a variety of applications, the outlet chain provides immediate delivery, transparent pricing, customized quantities, and guaranteed quality; customers are assured of materials from an ISO 9002 and 14001 certified mill.

Sales from the Essar Hypermart currently account for 20% of Essar Steel’s annual revenues.

“Customers will have direct access to the company’s products, without the intervention of any intermediaries, and without any restrictive terms and conditions. Essar Hypermart offers complete transparency in its dealings,” said Vikram Amin, Director of Sales & Marketing, Essar Steel.

The company plans to expand its distribution network through Expressmarts and the Expresspoints, which are dealer-owned and -operated outlets, and will offer Essar Hypermart products across all key steel consumption centers.

Essar Steel is a fully integrated flat carbon steel manufacturer—from iron ore to ready-to-market products. With a current annual capacity of 4.6 million tonnes, it has one of India’s most extensive Service Centre capabilities with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes, and the largest network of steel retail outlets (branded Essar Hypermart). Its products find wide acceptance in consumer sectors such as automotive, white goods, construction, engineering and shipbuilding.
