Essar Algoma Seeks Wage Cut From Steelworkers Union
01/23/2017 - Canada’s Essar Steel Algoma, which continues to operate under creditor protection, might now headed toward a showdown with the United Steelworkers union.
According to the online SooToday.com, the company has asked the union to agree to a 10 percent wage cut and other concessions, including a reduction in paid vacation days. Additionally, the company might seek issuance of what’s known as a no-board report and unilaterally impose new contract terms and United Steelworkers Local 2251 Michael Da Prat told the publication.
Da Prat said issuance of the no-board report would trigger a strike vote.
