Erdemir Selects Morgoil to Upgrade Former Sparrows Point Mill

March 24, 2004 — The Morgoil® Bearing Division of Morgan Construction Co. has received a contract from Eregli Demir ve Celik Fabrikalari, TAS (Erdemir), of Eregli, Turkey, to upgrade the chocks and bearings on their Mesta plate mill.

The contract, obtained by Morgan-Europe, the company's Sheffield, England, based European subsidiary, calls for the modernization of a mill Erdemir purchased from International Steel Group Inc. The mill, which had previously been operated by the former Bethlehem Steel at the Sparrows Point facility, will be relocated to Turkey.

The modernization will include the reconditioning the existing back-up chocks, supply of new bearing components, including hydrostatic bushings, and reconditioning and modification of existing sleeves. The modernization will also include the addition of Morgoil's patented LD® Locks. The upgrade will help to provide improved rolling performance and bearing life.

Engineering and manufacturing will be completed at the company's Worcester, Mass., headquarters, with delivery scheduled for September 2004.
