Environmental Building Material from Baosteel Applied in Shanghai Tower

Slag micropowder, the new environmental protection building material developed by Baosteel, has been mass-applied in Shanghai Tower, the tallest building under construction in Asia. The application follows the material’s successful use in the Shanghai World Financial Center.

Shanghai Tower, which will be put into service in 2014, will have a 580-meter high main building structure and a total height of 632 meters. Since there are many high-rise buildings in the vicinity, Baosteel says that special consideration was given to the tower’s foundation during design and construction in terms of low environmental impact of the building materials.

The construction of Shanghai Tower is being undertaken by Shanghai Construction Group, who has cooperated with Baosteel Development's Material Company on the promotion and application of slag micropowder for many years. Before this project, the companies had successfully applied Baosteel's slag micropowder in other key projects in China such as the Shanghai World Financial Center, Hongqiao Transportation Hub, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Maglev Train Project, Lupu Bridge, Yangshan Harbor, and Donghai Bridge.

Shanghai Construction Group has designated Baosteel Development's Material Company as the only supplier for slag micropowder for this project.
