According to an investor presentation on the steelmaker’s website, the line will be set up to produce 200,000 tons of non-oriented electrical steel annually. The project is to be funded through Big River’s cash flow and profitability, U. S. Steel said. 

The new line is meant to help meet growing electric vehicle demand. The first coil is expected in September 2023.
