Eisenbahn und Häfen to Merge with ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe

Eisenbahn und Häfen GmbH, a major provider of logistics services in the ThyssenKrupp Group, is planned to be merged into parent company ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG in June 2011. The supervisory boards of the two companies have now approved the move.

The employment contracts of the almost 1200 employees of Eisenbahn und Häfen GmbH will transfer to the parent company in accordance with Section 613a German Civil Code (BGB).

Under the merger, the operating activities—port, rail, and technology—will be integrated into the Logistics Services unit of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, while administration will be incorporated in the steel manufacturer’s functional service units. The aim of the reorganization, according to ThyssenKrupp, is to achieve even closer integration of logistics and production.

“The merger is an important element in further establishing existing logistics concepts within the overall structure of Germany’s biggest steel manufacturer and securing the company’s competitiveness,” explained Executive Board Chairman Edwin Eichler.

Together with its subsidiaries, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG supplies to a broad spectrum of steel-using sectors, including the automotive, shipbuilding, energy, construction, packaging, and electrical appliance industries. The company has been active at its core location in Duisburg for 120 years.
