EGI Announces 2012-2013 US$15,000 Metallurgy Scholarship Winner
02/15/2013 - The Ellwood Group Inc. announced that Stephen Rooney of Montclair, N.J., is the winner of the sixth annual Ellwood Group, Inc. Metallurgy Scholarship.
The Ellwood Group Inc. announced that Stephen Rooney of Montclair, N.J., is the winner of the sixth annual Ellwood Group, Inc. Metallurgy Scholarship. He is a junior at Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., majoring in material science and engineering. President of the Alfred University Art & Engineering Club, Stephen carries a 3.79 GPA.
Stephen was selected as the recipient because he is an exceptional student and a well-rounded, "hands on" individual, with an interest in the metals industry. He's a creative thinker who enjoys transforming his ideas to reality, with interests and skills in art as well as in science and technology.
The scholarship award ceremony will take place at Alfred University in February 2013. Dan Raiser, metallurgist at Ellwood Quality Steels, and Marie Russo, director of benefits and human resources, will present the award to Stephen, who is scheduled to complete an internship at Ellwood Quality Steels in 2013.
EGI will also award $5,000 scholarships each to Madeline Hatlen, Michel Knudsen and Travis Marsh, who were finalists for the scholarship. Madeline and Travis are attending the Colorado School of Mines and are majoring in metallurgical and materials engineering. Michel is a junior at Michigan Technological University and is majoring in material science and engineering.
All four students were provided with tours of Ellwood's manufacturing facilities in New Castle, Pa., and had the opportunity to speak with several of the company's metallurgists, engineers and other representatives.
