Economy Industrial to Supply Casting Machines in Russia, Iceland, and U.S.

Economy Industrial, Ambridge, Pa., is producing two new casting machines for installation in Europe, in conformity with CE requirements.

In addition to its recent export sales, Economy Industrial is currently producing a pig iron casting machine for domestic use in a new oxide recovery facility in Blytheville, Ark.

The plant is a joint venture of Nucor and Heritage Environmental.

Economy Industrial will install a stainless ingot casting machine at IC Vtormet, in Moscow, Russia, as well as a ferroalloy casting machine in Iceland.

The ferroalloy casting machine is the fourth installation to be supplied to IC Vtormet, an internationally recognized ferroalloy and foundry innoculant producer and one of Russia’s leading recycling enterprises.

According to the company, both new machines incorporate Economy Industrial’s patented process control system, which is already in service at installations in the US, Canada, South Africa, and Australia. The machines will feature an advanced automatic control system that will help to reduce operating costs by lowering mould consumption and reducing manning requirements. The control system also incorporates a variety of inter-locks to ensure consistent, safe operation, and reduce deviations from operational errors.

A number of Economy Industrial casters are already in operation at various international operations. Two 125 tonnes/hour iron casters installed at the HIsmelt Kwinana direct reduction plant handle 100% of the plant’s planned 900,000 tonnes/year iron output. A pig iron caster at Exxaro KZN Sands in South Africa casts iron produced as a byproduct of the titanium oxide production at a rate of 60 tonnes/hour. In Polokwane, South Africa, a nickel matte caster was supplied to Anglo Platinum to cast the intermediate product from the new smelter into slabs, for downstream processing to extract the platinum from the ore.
