Early Interest in British Steel Buoys Hopes
05/28/2019 - Potential buyers are kicking the tires on British Steel, giving some hope that the U.K. long products maker might be saved.
According the U.K. Insolvency Service, the special managers who are overseeing the business have contacted more than 80 potential buyers, and 60 of them have been non-disclosure agreements. Of those, several have signed the agreement, giving them access to information needed to help prepare an offer.
“Good progress is being made in identifying potential buyers for British Steel,” British Steel’s official receiver said in a statement. The receiver said expressions of interest are due by early June.
The company is continuing to operate as it works the through the liquidation process, which it was thrust into last week. The receiver said good customer support is helping the company remain viable.
