Duferdofin-Nucor, Alfa Acciai Receive Upgrades From AIC
09/27/2019 - Automation solutions provider Automazioni Industriali Capitanio s.r.l. has wrapped up projects at two Italian steel plants, the company has said.
At Duferdofin-Nucor's TPP facility in Pallanzeno, AIC outfitted a straightening machine with a new command and control system. It provided new equipment to control the adjustment and positioning of the machine rolls, installed a new primary logic controller; and furnished the detail engineering and documentation, among other things.
“The main purpose for replacing the obsolete Siemens S5 was to implement an easier and more effective way to accomplish maintenance and diagnostics. Moreover, the new engineering process has improved and optimized profile replacement time and the machine set-up process,” the company said.
At Alfa Acciai in Brescia, AIC equipped the facility’s No. 2 electric arc furnace with a new primary logic controller, new remote I/Os, and upgraded human-machine interface, among other things. The project was commissioned on a turnkey basis.
“Currently, the new automation system provides an easier and safer management of all (auxiliary equipment), and this allowed an effective start-up of the meltshop without any stops for E&A reasons. The plant completed 28 castings during the first day of production with a complete satisfaction of both Alfa Acciai and AIC,” the company said.
