Dragon Steel Orders RH-TOP Unit from SMS Mevac

Dragon Steel, located in Taichung, Taiwan, has awarded SMS Mevac, Germany, a contract to supply a second RH-TOP unit. The unit is the expansion of the secondary metallurgical key equipment for the new BOF steelworks, for which SMS Mevac has already delivered and successfully commissioned the RH plant of the first expansion stage.

The new plant, which will be designed to treat heats with a nominal weight of 210 tonnes, will mainly be used for the production of extra-low-carbon grades, steels with high silicon content, as well as electric sheets.

The RH-TOP plant will incorporate a fast-vessel-exchange system with a metallurgical TOP lance, burner lances in both standby positions, a charging system for alloying material, and a vacuum lock system. Maintenance of the snorkel tubes will be affected by installation of a maintenance car with gunning machine for refractory material.

The vacuum is achieved by a four-stage steam ejector vacuum pump with low consumptions of steam and condenser cooling water. The ladle is transported into the treatment position by a ladle transfer car and is then lifted for RH treatment by means of a hydraulic lifting device.

The scope of supply includes the basic engineering, detail engineering, and the delivery of all plant components and basic automation, as well as supervision of erection and commissioning.

Commissioning is scheduled for July 2012.
