Domestic Stainless Producers Respond to ITC’s Mixed Findings

The Specialty Steel Industry of North America issued a statement in response to the U.S. International Trade Commission’s sunset-review determinations this week regarding stainless steel sheet and strip from Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Taiwan. The Commission made affirmative determinations with respect to Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, but made negative determinations with respect to Germany, Italy, and Mexico.

"The domestic industry is pleased that the antidumping orders against Japan, Korea and Taiwan will continue for another five years,” said David A. Hartquist of Kelley Drye & Warren, counsel to petitioners AK Steel, Allegheny Technologies Inc. and North American Stainless, in response to the Commission’s findings. “We are disappointed that the ITC voted to end the orders against Germany, Italy and Mexico.

“We will examine the written decisions of the individual commissioners when the opinions are issued to determine whether to appeal the negative decisions to the Court of International Trade,” added Hartquist.
