Digitalization R&D Project Could Lead to Enhanced Production Scheduling at Big River
03/12/2018 - SMS group and a German university have launched a research and development project that focuses on automating production planning at Big River Steel.
In a statement, SMS group said that the project, which is being carried out in conjunction with Jacobs University in Bremen, is intended to provide solutions and optimization models for production planning with real product cycle times, improve yields through smart campaign planning and to set up a system that reschedules sequences in Compact Strip Production plants when casting has been disrupted.
SMS group is the primary technology supplier to Big River Steel.
“It is planned to introduce machine learning and pattern recognition techniques to predict the timeliness of orders. A further objective of the project is the development of a planning module based on artificial intelligence. This module is to detect relationships between production parameters and performance indicators on the basis of historic production data,” SMS group said in a statement.
