Danieli Wraps Up Spooling Line, Billet Welder Install
06/13/2023 - Nucor Corp.’s Utah long products mill has begun producing spooled rebar on a continuous basis following installation of a billet welder and spooling line, according to the equipment supplier on the project.
According to Danieli, the Plymouth, Utah, USA, mill is now capable of producing Nos. 3 to 8 rebar in spools of up to 5 tons.
“The main benefits from the endless rolling and bar spooling processes – the combination of K-Weld and K-Spool technologies – include higher efficiency and material yield; finished products with high mechanical characteristics and good weldability; and cost savings. Furthermore, endless rolling reduces the risk of cobbling,” Danieli said in a statement.
The project was carried out in two phases, the first of which was completed in 2022 with installation of the spooler line. The second phase, installation of the billet welder, was completed during a March 2023 plant outage, Danieli said.
The spooling line is Nucor’s third such line, Danieli said.
