Danieli Wins Order for Turkish Wire Rod Mill, Caster Automation

In a statement, Danieli said the mill, to be installed at the steelmaker’s Aliaga facility, will produce a variety of grades, including low- and medium-carbon steels, welding wire, high-carbon and PC wire, and reinforcement steel.

The mill, which will replace a unit that dates to the 1990s, will consist of a 10-pass fast-finishing block; a Danieli Structure Control water cooling line; a four-pass reducing and sizing block equipped with individual drive-control system; a high-speed shear; and a double-pipe oil-film bearing loop-laying head.

It will operate at a maximum rolling speed of 110 m/second. Start-up is set for the third quarter of 2021.

At the plant’s new 2-strand slab caster, Danieli will install level 1 automation and level 2 process control systems, along with instrumentation and the core process technology.

“Danieli’s state-of-the-art 3Q technological packages will enable the caster to produce a wide range of steel grades ranging from plain carbon steels to highly demanding grades such as IF, ULC, MnB and microalloyed grades,” Danieli said.

The caster is to enter service during the fourth quarter of 2021.
