Danieli Wins Order for Pakistani MicroMill
10/05/2015 - A Jordanian steel company has placed an order for a Danieli MicroMill as it looks to expand in the Asian markets, Danieli has announced.
According to Danieli, the order from the Taybah Steel Group is the ninth for its MicroMill technology. Destined for a greenfield site in Pakistan, it will be the first MicroMill in Asia, Danieli said.
The plant, which represents the first phase of a two-phase capital investment, will be capable of producing 500,000 tons of rebar per year. Start-up is to take place in early 2018. The second phase of the investment will double the mill's capacity to 1 million tons per year. The second phase would be brought online in 2019.
Danieli MicroMills have relatively low production capacity and focus on a specific product to serve a regional market. The mills make heavy use of locally sourced scrap.
Danieli said the mill includes a single strand, high-speed continuous casting machine; an ultra-compact rolling mill; a Direct Rolling & Bundling system, which does away with the traditional long cooling bed for bar multiples; and a quench and tempering system for bar products, which allows for the production of low-cost billets.
