Danieli to Upgrade Two Rebar Mills for Gerdau Ameristeel
12/15/2008 - ABSTRACT: Danieli will upgrade Gerdau Ameristeel’s Sayerville rebar mill with a new roughing mill, and the company’s St. Paul rebar mill with a new finishing end.
Gerdau Ameristeel has contracted Danieli for bar mill upgrade projects at its facilities in Sayerville, N.J., and St. Paul, Minn.
For existing rebar mill at Sayerville, Danieli will install its own compact twist-free roughing mill, comprising five ESS-585 cantilever stands in vertical and horizontal orientation plus associated crop shear. The roughing mill upgrade will enable the mill to accommodate 130-mm square billets, rolled at rates of up to 135 ton/hour with enhanced plant operation and efficiency.
For the existing rebar mill Gerdau Ameristeel’s St. Paul facility, Danieli will install its own finishing end comprising a bar counting, bundling, strapping, tagging and collecting station suitable for processing No. 4 to 18 rebars and 0.5- to 4-inch round bars. Product will be processed in up to 4.7-ton, 65-ft long quality bundles at rates of up to 140 ton/hour.
Startup of the new roughing mill at Sayerville is foreseen in the fourth quarter of 2009. Startup of the new finishing end on the St. Paul rebar mill is targeted for the second quarter of 2009.
