Greece Sidenor Group has contracted Danieli Centro Met to upgrade its four-strand billet caster currently in operation at the Thessaloniki steel plant.
The company’s goal for the modification is to enable high-speed casting of 140- x 140-mm carbon steel billets, and to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
Danieli will equip the existing conticaster with new 1000-mm long moulds, new electromechanical oscillating tables, and a new secondary distribution system. Danieli will also install an anti-torsion-roll device to facilitate strict control of billet dimensional tolerances. The caster will be completed with a new advanced automation system supplied by Danieli Automation.
Start-up of the upgraded machine is scheduled for January 2008.
