Danieli to Upgrade Four Riva Rolling Mills

Riva Group has contracted Danieli Morgårdshammar to upgrade four of its rolling mills located in Italy, France, and Spain.

The mills to be modernized include the 85-tonne/hour Riva Verona No. 2 bar mill in Italy, the 120-tonne/hour Sam Montereau wire rod mill; the 110-tonne/hour Iton Seine S.A. bar mill in France, and the 90-tonne/hour Siderurgica Sevillana No. 1 bar mill in Spain.

Riva’s goals for the upgrades are to optimize the associated rolling operation and enhance each plant’s flexibility and efficiency. Danieli will install its ESS compact cantilever oil-film-bearing stands for each project, which represents a total of 27 new rolling units.

Startup of the plants in Italy and France is scheduled to take place in August 2008, while for the Spain project hot run will start at early 2009.

Riva Group is already operating Danieli’s ESS stands at its ALPA-Acièries et Laminoirs de Paris 700,000-tonne/year bar mill in France, where a 6-stand ESS twist-free compact roughing mill has operated successfully since April 2001. The stands have also been in operation at Riva’s Verona bar mill since early 2005.
