Danieli to Upgrade Fagersta Stainless Mill

According to a press release, the bar-in-coil line will produce rounds, squares and hexagons at diameters of 8.5–8.8 mm in 1-ton coils at 35 tons per hour. The line will be built on a plancher and receive hot-rolled bars from the same rolling mill that feeds the wire rod line. The finishing services of the wire rod mill will also be used for coil compacting and tying operations for the new line’s products.

Danieli said two new Morgardshammar housingless stands like those already in operation at the rolling mill will also be delivered. A custom fast-transfer system will deliver the hot coils formed by Garrett coilers into a water tank for solubilization through an energy-saving process to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Fagersta Stainless estimates the layout of the line will allow for higher productivity, up to 50 tons per hour, and double coil-weight capacity. This will grant them a larger production range, production flexibility and best production costs.

The companies said hot start-up is estimated for early 2026.
