April 2007 — Al Ezz Steel Rebars Co., Egypt, recently contracted Danieli to upgrade the existing rebar mills in Sadat City.

With the upgrade, Al Ezz intends to expand the present water quenching and self tempering facilities, thus increasing its overall capacity for QTB-treated rebar production.

Danieli’s scope of supply comprises supply and installation of a new QTB line and associated auxiliaries at the No. 2 Bar Mill. The current QTB line, presently on duty at the same plant, will be shifted to No. 1 Mill (which at the moment does not have such a facility).

The two bar mills are part of the one million tonne/year Danieli minimill that has been operating in Sadat City since the second half of the 1990s.

The new QTB line is designed to treat 10- to 32-mm diameter rebars, with twin-strand slitting for 10- to 16-mm diameter, at speeds of up to 15 meters/second and at rates of up to 80 tonne/hour.

Startup is foreseen for the end of year 2007.
