Walcownia Ostrowiec, Poland, a newly-formed company within the Interspeed Spzoo Group, has contracted Danieli to supply a new 400,000-tonne/year high-speed wire rod and bar-in-coil mill.

The new state-of-the-art mill, which comprises an 18-stand continuous mill completely arranged over SHS housingless stands, will be fed by a 90-tonne/hour Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam reheat furnace. The wire rod production outlet includes a 10-pass DWB high-speed finishing block, water-cooling line, oil-film-bearing loop layer, and controlled cooling conveyor. The bar-in-coil line comprises two Garrett coilers and walking beam conveyor fitted with fans for on-line heat treatment of the coils. Sund Birsta finishing facilities will serve both coil production outlets.

The new mill’s product range will include 18- to 60-mm diameter coiled round bars and 5.5- to 20-mm diameter plain (or 6- to 16-mm diameter quenched deformed) wire rod, produced at operation speeds of up 105 mps, in up to 2.3-tonne coils. Product will include a large variety of quality and engineering grades, including spring and bearing steels.

Danieli Automation will supply all electricals and the advanced automation system.

Operation of the new plant will start in the spring of 2009.
