Danieli to Supply Superflexible Long Products Mill for DMKD

Dneprovsky I&S Works (DMKD), Ukraine, recently selected Danieli to supply a new ultrahigh-capacity superflexible bar, section and rod mill to be installed at the Dneprodzerzhinsk works, replacing the existing bar mill.

Danieli’s scope of supply comprises a new state-of-the-art rolling mill with a nominal yearly output of 1.2 million tonnes/year featuring the latest Danieli technologies and related equipment for the production of commercial steel long products. The new plant will be one of the largest and most advanced plants of this type in all of Eastern Europe.

Fed by a new 200-tonnes/hour Danieli Centro Combustion Walking Beam reheat furnace, the new rolling facility will be arranged over an 18-stand continuous mill plus two 4-pass high-speed twist-free finishing blocks, fed by two-strand slit-rolled stock coming from the upstream intermediate stands. Finish-rolling of the smaller bar sizes (8 to 20 mm) will be performed on two independent strands at very high speed of up to 35 meters/second, fully exploiting the RHF capacity. High-speed bar delivery onto cooling bed will be performed through a double twin channel system. Bigger bar sizes and the range of profiles will be rolled on one strand.

QTB lines located at the finishing blocks and at continuous mill delivery side will provide on-line water quenching and self-tempering of the rebars. Dedicated finishing facilities after cooling bed—including CCL straightening and on-the-fly cut-to length, and automatic counting, bundling and stacking facilities—will process the straight bar products at very high mill output rates.

The 110-meters/second wire rod production outlet will comprise a 10-pass DWB high-speed finishing block, associated DSC controlled cooling line, and Sund finishing facilities, suitable for 2.3-tonne coils.

The new plant will produce a product range including 16- to 65-mm diameter quality plain bars, 8- to 40-mm diameter rebars, 25- to 100-mm angles and correspondent channels, and 5.5- to 16-mm diameter wire rod in common and quality structural carbon steel grades.

Danieli Automation will supply the electricals and the fully integrated automation system for the whole plant. Commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2008.
