Danieli to Supply Seamless Tube Plant for JESCO
06/18/2007 - Jubail Energy Services places order with Danieli for the supply of what will be the first seamless tube plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Jubail Energy Services Co. [JESCO], Saudi Arabia, recently placed an order with Danieli for the supply of what will be the first seamless tube plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The hot rolling mill is an essential component of the new tube plant. The facility will incorporate a Danieli Centro Tube designed 14-inch FQM mill as well as an Extractor and a Sizing Mill. The FQM mill is a 3-roll continuous rolling mill with retained mandrel, and the extractor and sizing mill will feature a Friedrich Kocks design. The new plant will be capable of producing up to 400,000 tons per year of high-quality seamless tubes ranging in diameter from 139 to 365 mm in accordance with international standards to be applied in the oil industry.
Within the framework of the existing cooperation agreement with Danieli Centro Tube, Kocks will be responsible for the process, design layout, manufacture, supply, and commissioning of the 3-stand extractor and the 10-stand sizing mill. Both mills are equipped with "Star Drive," which features separate drives for every roll, and the 3-roll stands are designed for a nominal roll diameter of 650 mm. The extractor operates with non-adjustable stands only, whereas the sizing mill incorporates both adjustable and non-adjustable stand types.
The new mill will include a quick stand changing system, in-line remote-controlled pass adjustment for the adjustable stands, and quick roll-changing system in the roll shop, which is similar to the 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Blocks [RSB] that are commonly employed in wire rod and bar mills.
Danieli Centro Tube will be in charge of the construction of this new plant. The scope of supply also includes the process automation systems and the Tumicon-System, consisting of various components completely developed by Kocks. The Tumicon computer program includes calculation of the pass design and optimum setup values (e.g. motor speed), as well as a management tool for rolls and stands. Mill control will also include Tec-Box, a highly dynamic open- and closed-loop system for quality optimization that includes AWC for wall-thickness control and HEC for minimization of heavy ends. These components are complemented by the INSPECT-System, which allows the operator to visualize the technological controls of the Tec-Box as well as the measured values from the rolling mill, such as wall thickness, heavy ends, etc.
The new seamless pipe plant will be installed on a complete turnkey basis in Al-Jubail. Commissioning and start up of commercial production is scheduled for the end of 2008.
