Danieli to Supply Rail Head Hardening System for ArcelorMittal Poland

According to a press release from Danieli, the rail head hardening system will be able to heat treat hot rails coming from the rolling mill with lengths over 120 m and a mass per meter of between 45 and 68 kg/m at hardness levels greater than 400 HB.

The rails are immersed in a non-toxic water-polymer solution that allows for a cooling treatment that achieves homogenous mechanical properties over the entire length of the rail. The system is energy efficient since air blowers are not used for quenching and no additional heating devices are required.

The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Completion of the project is scheduled for 2023.
