Saudi Iron & Steel Co. (Hadeed), Saudi Arabia, awarded Danieli a turnkey contract for the supply of a 500,000 tonne/year bar and wire rod mill to be installed at the Al-Jubail steel complex.

The original contract was recently amended to extend the complex with additional facilities for endless rolling and complete the high-speed wire rod production outlet. Additional equipment includes an EWR^® Endless Welding Rolling line to be installed between the reheating furnace exit and the first roughing stand, allowing automatic continuous welding of billets for uninterrupted production of straight bars and wire rod.

Danieli will also provide a 4-pass Twin Module Block (TMB) finishing block with quick changing facilities. This latest-generation TMB will be located downstream of the ten-pass DWB pre-finishing wire rod block, served by a unique minimum-tension control system. All wire rod product range will be finished at the TMB unit, enhancing the line's finishing speed and plant efficiency.

Endless rolling operation will enhance material yield, plant availability, productivity and production costs, granting consistent material quality. Supply of custom-weight coils from a
single-size standard billet will increase the marketability of Hadeed’s products.
