Saudi Iron & Steel Co. (Hadeed) recently awarded Danieli an order for a new turnkey rolling mill to be installed at its Al-Jubail steel complex.
The new 18-pass mill will be made up of SHS housingless stands equipped with quick-changing facilities, plus a ten-pass high-speed wire rod block and state-of-the-art finishing facilities for straight bar and coil production.
The product range for the new mill will include 8- to 40-mm deformed bars and 5.5- to 16-mm (including down to 6-mm diameter deformed) wire rod in coils weighing up to 2.5 tonnes. Very high finishing speeds — up to 18 meters per second for double-strand slit bars and up to 115 meters per second for wire rod — will help to facilitate high productivity.
Danieli’s complete turnkey supply will include all auxiliary plants and systems (including WTP, compressed air plant, roll-turning shop, EOT cranes, etc.), all buildings, civil works and road system as well as erection for the whole plant. Danieli Automation will supply electricals and the automation system, and Danieli Centro Combustion will supply the 110 tonne per hour walking hearth reheat furnace.
At present, Danieli is also supplying a new 150-tonne twin-tank VD station, which will start operation in late 2004 as an upgrade of the Hadeed II Flat Products steelmaking facilities at the same Al-Jubail steel complex. In addition, another high-capacity Danieli Morgårdshammar bar and section mill has successfully operated at the same steelworks since 1993.
Startup for the new rolling mill plant is scheduled to take place in early 2006.
