Alphasteel Ltd., U.K., recently placed an order with Danieli to install a new spooler line to the Newport high-speed compact bar mill originally supplied by Danieli in the late 1980s.

Featuring Danieli’s innovative bar-in-coil technology, the new line will enable twist-free production of 8 to 20-mm diameter rebars wound at speeds of up to 31 meters/second into high-quality ultra-compact 1.8-tonne spooled coils. The line will operate at rates of up to 70 tonnes/hour.

Featuring cobble-free uncoiling capability, spooled coils can be used for direct feeding of downstream lines in cold processing plants, without any intermediate off-line operation (i.e.: decoiling, stretching or cold rewinding). The elimination of intermediate processing results in significantly reduced direct production costs and more efficient coil handling, transport and storage.

Danieli Automation will supply electricals and automation system for the line. Startup is scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2007.

With its new installation, Alphasteel will become the 12th user worldwide for Danieli’s spooler line technology.
