Danieli Tapped for Slab Caster Improvement Project
07/30/2020 - Danieli has been contracted to extend a thin-slab caster at a Russian steel works, a project that will complement installation of a new meltshop, Danieli has announced.
In a statement, Danieli said it will add two segments to the single-strand slab caster at OMK’s Vyksa Works, taking its metallurgical length from 14.2 m to 17.3 m.
“The caster extension is part of a broader strategy to ensure the plant's ability to absorb the additional liquid steel coming from a recent upgrade to the electric arc furnace and the forthcoming installation of a new meltshop by Danieli Centro Met, including an EAF, a twin LF and a twin vacuum degasser,” Danieli said.
The caster extension will be carried out in two phases, the first of which is to occur in September. In that phase, the first of two new segments will be installed and several Danieli technology packages will be added.
The second phase will take place in August 2021, coinciding with the startup of the new meltshop, Danieli said.
