Danieli Secures US$650 Million in New Orders From Nucor

Danieli’s QSP-DUE® Danieli Universal Direct Rolling technology will be installed at Nucor’s greenfield facility in West Virginia to produce quality hot strip.

The QSP-DUE Danieli Universal Endless plant will produce 3 million tons per year of hot-rolled strip in dimensions up to 2,100 mm wide and from 0.8 to 25.4 mm thick. Danieli QSP-DUE allows coil-to-coil, semi-endless and endless modes to be performed in a single line. The facility will be the first thin-slab casting rolling plant to also produce automotive exposed grades.

The West Virginia plant will feature Danieli Automation’s advanced process technologies, artificial intelligence and robotized solutions.

Nucor also awarded Danieli two cold strip projects, the first being a new pickling line and tandem cold mill and temper mill to complete the QSP-DUE hot strip plant, capable of processing 2.3 million tons per year. The second order is for a galvanizing line and a color coating line to be installed at Nucor’s plant in Crawfordsville, Ind., USA.

The company expects these plants to be operational by the end of 2024.

Additionally, Danieli is currently upgrading the Nucor Steel Gallatin plant from CSP to QSP technology.
