Danieli Revamps Rolling Stands At German Strip Mill
08/12/2015 - Danieli Transmissions has completed upgrades to a ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe mill in Germany, the company has announced.
In a statement, Danieli said it revamped HSM drive trains on the first two finishing stands at ThyssenKrupp's Hoesch Hohenlimburg hot rolled strip mill. More specifically, Danieli designed and supplied new gearboxes, safety couplings and the latest oil-lubricated spindles to deliver more torque and power to the rolling stands.
The goal of the project was to boost rolling force and increase rolling speed. One of the main challenges, Danieli said, was to revamp the drive trains without having to modify the civil works and to reuse the equipment's existing anchor bolts.
Hoesch Hohenlimburg is a leading supplier of hot rolled steel strip. Its steel is mainly used in cold rolled applications and for special applications in the automotive sector, Danieli said.
Danieli said the project was delivered on time, completed within the nine-month project window. Production resumed on 9 August.
