Danieli: Nucor Micro-Mill Has Begun Melting Scrap
02/10/2020 - Nucor Corp. safely struck the first arc on the EAF at its new rebar micro-mill in Missouri on 31 January, and produced ready-to-ship bundles a few hours later, confirms project contractor Danieli.
The Sedalia, Mo., facility also successfully switched into endless cast-roll mode in a few heats following the first, “confirming once more the full reliability of the MI.DA process,” Danieli said in a statement.
Danieli’s Endless Casting-Rolling (ECR) technology for long products is a key feature of the mill. At its core is a single-strand, high-speed continuous caster tied to a 16-stand ultra-compact rolling mill.
By the end of 2020, Danieli will have 16 ECR MI.DA mills in operation worldwide.
Nucor’s mill has the capacity to annually produce 380,000 tons of rebar in a size range of No. 4 to No. 11. It is building a second micro-mill in Frostproof, Fla.
