Danieli Lands Order for Nucor EAF

According to Danieli, the digitally enhanced electric arc furnace will be capable of producing 630,000 short tons of liquid steel per year and will feed a Danieli-built rolling mill. Nucor acquired the Kingman plant from North Star Steel in 2003. The plant had a meltshop, but it has not operated since 2000.

The new meltshop will utilize Danieli’s Digimelter and Digirefiner technologies and will be powered by its Q-One power feeder.

“Q-One overcomes the limitations of the traditional power feeding systems and yields, ensuring unparalleled advantages to both power feeding and the furnace melting process. These are proven by the practical elimination of network disturbances and greater efficiency of the furnace operation. Hybrid by design, Q-One allows the direct use of renewable energy sources generated at the site,” Danieli said.

In addition to  full suite of technology and robotics packages, the contract provides for a raw materials handling system for additions at EAF tapping and at the ladle furnace, a new downcomer and settling chamber for the primary fumes, and a 30-ton scrap yard crane.

The meltshop is to enter service in the third quarter of 2024.
