The upgrade allows the direct charging of hot billets in the 80 tons/hour pusher-type furnace and reduces fuel consumption by 40%. This in turn results in lower carbon emissions, according to a company press release.

Danieli said the job was executed in two stages, during the summer and winter plant shutdowns, and was completed five days ahead of the original schedule.
