Danieli Delivers Q-One Power Feeder
02/14/2025 - Shinkasai Steel’s Osaka facility in Japan is now operating a digital electric arc furnace (EAF) after the successful installation of Danieli’s Q-One power feeder, the companies announced.
The power feeder features variable frequency operation down to 20 Hz in full power. It makes a negligible impact on the power grid and doesn’t need a compensation system.
“[This makes] electric steelmaking viable in weak electric network conditions, like in the Osaka Sakai industrial area,” Danieli said.
They estimate this will result in power-on reduction and energy savings of about 8%.
“The start of operation was immediate and with the achievement of all the performance tests the Japanese steelmaker released the final acceptance certificate -FAC in just 28 days from the startup,” Danieli reported.
Now that two Danieli Q-One power feeder installations have been successful in Japan, first in 2021 at Tokyo Steel in Kyushu and now at Shinkasai Steel, an additional two more are scheduled, the company said. Installation will begin soon at Chiyoda Steel in Tokyo and JFE B&S in Himeji.
