Danieli Corus Tapped for Blast Furnace Reline
06/01/2017 - Danieli Corus has a won a contract to reline the No. 5 blast furnace at Severstal’s Cherepovets plant in Russia, the company has announced.
Under the contract, the blast furnace shell, refractories and cooling system will be replaced. Danieli said Severstal has chosen to apply its Hoogovens cooling and lining technology to the flagship furnace. The cooling and lining system incorporates machined copper plate coolers that work in conjunction with high-conductivity graphite.
Equipment and material deliveries are to begin in 2019, and the reline will start in 2020, Danieli said.
Danieli said the project will take the furnace’s volume to more than 6,000 cubic meters, making it one of the world’s largest.
