Danieli Corus Ships First Hydraulic Gearbox for Blast Furnace Top-Charging Systems
02/27/2017 - Danieli Corus and Danieli Centro Metallics have shipped their first DANCU gearbox to a Ukrainian steel mill that is replacing its top-charging system.
The gearbox is bound for the No. 3 blast furnace at Zaporizhstal, which is upgrade the unit for increased production and availability.
In a statement, Danieli Corus said the gearbox is designed to offer uninterruptible service, in part by replacing electromechanical components with hydraulics and by building in full redundancies for the tilting and rotating equipment.
“The rotating and tilting movements of the chute are achieved with only four moving parts, making this charging unit the most robust design available,” Danieli Corus said in a statement.
The gearbox also has a bigger main bearing to prevent torque inversion and closed-circuit cooling, it said.
