Danieli Corus, Tata Projects to Build Greenfield Blast Furnace for SAIL
10/06/2008 - Consortium comprising Danieli Corus and Tata Projects Limited will design and construct a greenfield blast furnace for SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant.
The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has awarded a consortium comprising Danieli Corus BV from IJmuiden, The Netherlands and Tata Projects Limited from Kolkata, India, to design and construct a greenfield blast furnace at SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant.
The Rourkela facility currently operates four blast furnaces, which together produce two million tonnes of hot metal per year. Once it is operational, the new furnace will more than double the facility’s production capacity.
The project is part of SAIL’s long term expansion plan, which targets an increase in production for the entire company of around 85% within five years.
For Danieli Corus, this project follows recent orders for greenfield blast furnaces in the Ukraine (2007) and USA (2008). The company is now executing similar projects on all three major steel-producing continents.
