Danieli Contracted for Slab Caster Upgrade
10/24/2017 - Danieli has been awarded a contract to overhaul the No 2. slab caster at ArcelorMittal Tubarão, the steelmaker’s flat-rolled plant in Serra, Brazil.
According to Danieli, the 2-strand caster is nearly 20 years old and produces ultralow-, low-, medium- and high-carbon steels; peritectic and high-strength, low-alloy steels; and microalloyed steels.
Through the project, the caster will be outfitted with a variety of Danieli technology packages, including its automatic mold level and mold width adjustment systems, its hydraulically actuated mold oscillator, and its dynamic soft reduction system.
Danieli will design and supply the equipment, provide the level 1 automation and interface with the existing level 2 automation, and advise on installation and commissioning.
Start-up is expected in the second quarter of 2019. The work will take place in conjunction with a scheduled blast furnace outage.
