Danieli Awarded Contract for Greenfield Wire Rod Mill
05/21/2018 - Concrete reinforcement products maker Van Merksteijn International has chosen Danieli to equip a new mini-mill at the port of Eemshavenin in the Netherlands.
In a statement, Danieli said the plant will be designed to produce more than 900,000 metric tons of wire rod annually.
Danieli said the meltshop will feature a 100-ton electric arc furnace outfitted with its Endless Scrap Charging technology; a ladle furnace; and a 3-strand billet conticaster, which will be built to allow for the addition of a fourth strand. The meltshop will be capable of producing 1 million metric tons annually.
The caster will make 160 mm square billets, which hot charge directly to a compact rolling mill. The mill will be made up of 16 cantilever stands and will incorporate Danieli’s Twin-Module Block technology.
Finished rod will range from 5.5 mm to 20 mm in diameter.
Danieli will provide the engineering and supply the equipment. Danieli Automation will supply all electrical equipment, including the substation, process control and equipment control systems.
Start-up is scheduled for the second half of 2020.
