Danieli, Tenova HYL to Supply Energiron DR Plant to EZZ Rolling Mills
01/12/2010 - EZZ Rolling Mills, Egypt, signs contracts with Danieli & Co. and Tenova HYL, for the turnkey supply of a 1.9 million tonnes/year ENERGIRON III direct reduction plant.
EZZ Rolling Mills, Egypt, has signed contracts with Danieli & Co. and Tenova HYL, for the turnkey supply of an ENERGIRON III direct reduction plant. The plant will be located at the company’s premises in Ain Suhkna, Suez, Egypt.
The Energiron direct reduction process, jointly developed and marketed by Tenova HYL and Danieli & Co., converts iron ore into metallic iron by the use of reducing gases in a solid-gas moving bed shaft furnace. The process is designed to remove oxygen from the iron ore by chemical reactions to yield highly metalized DRI.
Designed to produce 1.9 million tons per year of cold discharge DRI, EZZ Rolling Mills’ new plant will be the world’s largest in terms of productivity from a single production unit. The new plant will also feature a CO2 removal unit for the selective removal of CO2 from the process gas recycle stream.
EZZ Rolling Mills’ new ENERGIRON plant fully complies with the Egyptian Environmental Law, and meets or exceeds the strictest environmental requirements worldwide. It was designed taking into account the company’s future expansion plans in Ain Suhkna. It is expected to start up beginning in the third quarter of 2011.
