Danieli, Tenova Commission New Consteel EAF for Ashinsky Steel Works

Danieli and Tenova have successfully commissioned a new Danieli FASTARCTM EAF and Consteel® plant for Ashinsky Steel Works (AMET) in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region.

AMET installed the Danieli FASTARC EAF & Consteel system as part of the planned phase-out of its obsolete open-hearth plants. Following the upgrade, the shop will be capable of producing around 1.0 million tonnes/year at a rate of 144 tonnes of steel per hour.

The 6800-mm diameter FASTARC EAF is equipped with a 90-MVA transformer and controlled by Danieli Automation system and Hireg® Electrode regulation. The new furnace will tap 120 tonnes/heat, working with a 60-tonne hot heel.

Four sidewall-mounted MORE Oxygen jets, each supplying 2,200 Nm3/hour, and three MORE Carbon jets, each supplying 40 kg/minute, fully automatically controlled, will help to maximize the use of available chemical energy in the furnace.

The Consteel plant, which is around 100 meters long, includes a charging and a preheating section. The charging section comprises two conveyors that carry scrap that will be fed continuously into the EAF. In the pre-heater section, scrap will be preheated using energy recovered from the specific heat contained in the fumes and the combustion of CO in the off gases.

The meltshop is complete with a new 1,600,000 m3/hour Danieli Fume Dedusting Plant, equipped with pulse-jet type Bag Filter, guaranteeing full compliance with all local environmental rules.
