According to Russula, the project entailed upgrades to the automation system. 

“Four existing PLCs and control boards were replaced with new ones, all fully assembled in Russula’s workshop in A Coruña, Spain. The automation upgrade will improve plant safety and reliability of the casting process, as well as spare parts availability,” Russula said. 

In the project’s first phase, which was completed in May 2022, approximately 60 new drives were retrofitted to the caster. The work was completed in a record six days, Russula said.
