CORE to Supply Materials Handling for Steel Dynamics Meltshop
03/09/2007 -
March 9, 2007 — Core Furnace Systems was recently awarded a contract by Steel Dynamics Inc. to design and supply a meltshop materials handling system for the company’s Columbia City, Ind., facility.
Highlights of the project include a new flux charge bucket additive system at the EAF, plus the relocation and upgrade of an existing LMF alloy material handling system. Relocation and upgrade of the LMF alloy system will include collection of emissions during the transfer, loading and weighing of ferroalloys.
All systems will be designed and optimized to efficiently feed the meltshop process equipment. System components will include conveyors, storage silos, bins, vibratory feeders and unloading stations. CORE will also design and supply a process control and automation system that will interface with an existing system.
This is the second meltshop materials handling system that CORE has designed and supplied for SDI at this location.
Start-up is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2007.
