Metallurgical Holding, part of Maxi Group, Russia, has placed an order with SMS Demag and Concast AG for a complete minimill at its new plant, Elektrohüttenwerk Kaluga, south of Moscow.

Scope of supply includes a six-strand Convex Technology® combi-caster capable of producing billets, blooms and beam blanks. The caster will be equipped with various Concast casting technologies including nozzle manipulators, electromechancial stoppers, Convex Technology patented mould tubes and mould cartridge assemblies, and Concast electromagnetic mould stirrers.

Metallurgical Holding’s new plant will have a production capacity of one million tons per year of low-, medium- and high-carbon steel grades. Plans for the facility do not include a rolling mill, and all products will be sold on the open market.

The complete plant, including the Concast combi-caster, is scheduled to start up in 2006.
