03/11/2009 - Zhangjiagang Rongsheng Steel Making Co. and Concast commission a new five-strand continuous caster with hot charging facilities.
Zhangjiagang Rongsheng Steel Making Co. Ltd. Shagang Group and Concast AG have commissioned a five-strand continuous casting machine with hot charging facilities. The plant is now producing mild carbon steel billets for the Chinese market.
The new continuous casting machine enhances two existing Concast five-strand casters that are in service in the same meltshop. The meltshop now operates with a total of 15 strands.
Within the same organization, Zhangjiagang Shajing Steel Co. Ltd. has also given Final Acceptance for the upgraded Meltshop No. 2. This order comprised the installation of final stirrers in the Concast continuous casting machine, new strand guiding equipment, new rigid dummy bars and secondary cooling modifications. The ladle furnace was retrofitted with an automatic lance system, a new ladle cover and a wire feeder.
For the meltshop’s electrical automation system, Concast supplied the new level-2 control ware with metallurgical data management, equipment life tracking and material tracking for the scrapyard, EAF, LF and continuous casting facility. The upgrade has allowed the company to successfully produce SBQ steel grades for the Chinese markets.
The Zhangjiagang Group now operates billet casters comprising a total of 45 strands, all supplied by Concast.
