Conares to Grow UAE Steel Production Capabilities

The company announced plans to increase its pipe-making and galvanizing facilities in a bid to become a 1m-tonne steel manufacturer.

Details of the strategy were revealed during a gala dinner to celebrate the UAE-headquartered firm’s 25th anniversary.

Vivek Bhatia, business development manager at Conares, said: “We will be enhancing our existing production [capabilities], enhancing our pipe-making facility by about 200,000 tonnes, our galvanizing facility by 15,000 tonnes, and our rebar [facility] remains the same. With this, we are pleased to announce that we will be a 1m-tonne steel manufacturer.”

Speaking during the event, CEO of Conares, Bharat Bhatia, added: “I’m excited and equally nervous standing in front of you today. Excited because what we promised, we managed to deliver. Numbers; what will it be like 25 years from now? We will be facing new challenges… and I look forward to receiving support from all of you who are here, and maybe I’ll be standing in front of you [at Conares’s] golden jubilee.”

The Conares anniversary celebration was attended by a selection of construction professionals and dignitaries, including His Highness Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Department of Civil Aviation, CEO and chairman of The Emirates Group, and chairman of Dubai World. Also present was Ambassador of India to the UAE, T. P. Seetharam, who congratulated the Conares chief on his success within the Emirates’ steel sector.

“Over the last 25 years, Bharat Bhatia has grown with Dubai, grown with the UAE, and I’m sure that in years to come, this [will be] a partnership that has so much more to offer,” he said. “Dubai and the UAE have been very fertile ground for very enterprising people from all over the world, and a significant number of Indians have found their way here, starting modestly – as Mr Bhatia [did].

“But the opportunities that have been provided to them – the very friendly business environment that exists here, the vision and leadership that exists within the UAE – have provided the kind of environment that has allowed such talent, such enterprise, to bloom, and that is really the basis of the great relationship between our countries,” he concluded.
