Commissioning Underway on New PCI Units at Russian Blast Furnaces
07/17/2017 - Blast furnace specialist Paul Wurth and Russia’s NLMK Group have begun commissioning new pulverized coal injection units at the steelmaker’s Lipetsk works.
The units support the Nos. 6 and 7 blast furnaces and are expected to yield a 30% decrease in coke consumption and a 50% decrease in natural gas consumption. The units consist of two coal-grinding and drying plants rated at 75 tons per hour.
The systems will inject at least 150 kg of coal per ton of hot metal.
“(In addition to) the design, supply of key components, instrumentation, automation and the site supervision, Paul Wurth has supported NLMK and its local partners in engineering, construction and erection of the plant over the entire construction period. We are now jointly looking forward to ramping up to efficient ironmaking operations at the guaranteed injection level,” the company said.
