Commercial Metals Begins Divesting Marketing and Distribution Business
06/14/2017 - Commercial Metals Company plans to carve up and divest its international materials marketing and distribution business so that it can focus on its American and Polish steel mills, the company has announced.
"These actions will allow the company to focus its capital and other resources on its core steel manufacturing operations in the United States and Poland, which are well positioned to serve the robust demand for steel needed to support nonresidential construction and infrastructure in the United States and Poland,” said president and chief operating officer Barbara Smith.
As part of the divestment, the company said it has signed an agreement to sell CMC Cometals, its raw materials trading division, to Traxys North America LLC and Traxys Europe SA, which are affiliates of The Carlyle Group.
Meanwhile, Commercial Metals has put its CMC Cometals Steel division up for sale and is pursuing a restructuring and sale of the remaining trading operations in Asia and Australia.
