Commerce Department Sets Anti-Dumping Duties on Steel Plate
11/07/2016 - The U.S. Commerce Department has set preliminary anti-dumping duties on carbon and alloy cut-to-length plate from China and eight other Asian and European nations.
The duties generally range from 2.4% to 68.3%, the rate which applies to Chinese producers. However, one Italian company, Marcegaglia SpA, is facing duties of 130.6%. In addition to China and Italy, other countries named in the case include Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
The case arose on complaint filed last year by ArcelorMittal USA, Nucor Corp., and SSAB Enterprises.
According to The Times newspaper of northwest Indiana, those countries, along with Brazil, South Africa and Turkey, which are also named in the case, exported nearly US$700 million worth of plate to the U.S. in 2015.
